Master's thesis worker, data modelling and analysis
We are looking for a Master's thesis worker to our Automation team in Wood Products. This is a full-time, fixed-term position starting flexibly in May or June 2025 and lasting for 6-8 months. This role is based at our Helsinki head office or Honkalahti, Varkaus or Veitsiluoto sawmills.

Stora Enso Automation team in Wood Products is responsible for automation development at all Stora Enso sawmills. We have multiple development streams: Automation Software, Energy & Drying, Intralogistics, Quality and Grading and Robotics & Motion.
As a master's thesis worker, you will dive deep to energy and drying related process data. You will analyze the data, find correlations and factors impacting energy usage and process performance in drying kilns, and create models and tools that will help to optimize energy use. The models you will develop will optimally support drying kiln operators on their daily work, and create positive impact to the environment and business through improving energy efficiency in one of the sawmilling's most energy consuming process.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a candidate who is about to finalize the master level studies in areas like software development, data sciences, energy or automation. This role requires good, hands-on competence in data analysis & modelling, databases, and software development. You are at home when processing large data masses and enjoy in being able to focus on the details. You are persistent in finding the answers and want to understand how things work. You are fluent in Finnish and English, enjoy working independently and as part of a team, and take pride in identifying data-driven improvement points and bringing solutions.
As a person, you have a positive attitude and you are committed to develop yourself and your work forward, always keeping safety in mind. You enjoy solving problems and minding the details and can handle complex technical optimization tasks. You have good communication skills as you will need to consult the kiln operators and other relevant stakeholders.
This position may require a few travels to mills to understand the drying process, depending on your location.
