Chief Financial Officer / CFO

Maria 01 is one of the most relevant startup ecosystem players in the Nordic region. Located in a beautiful old hospital in central Helsinki, Maria 01 houses close to 200 startups, 25 venture capital funds, and other ecosystem supporters, with around 1,500 people working full-time on our campus. 

As an international community, Maria 01 was awarded the Internationalisation Prize by the President of the Republic of Finland in 2021. We operate as a community-driven, not-for-profit organisation co-owned by the Startup Foundation, Helsinki Enterprise Agency, and the City of Helsinki.

 

Position Overview

 We are now looking for a new CFO to join our team. As our CFO you will be pivotal to ensuring that we meet our financial targets set by the Board. This role involves overseeing all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, and generating financial reports for board meetings. You will also take care of HR and Legal-related tasks with the CEO and COO. This role offers a mix of hands-on execution and autonomy, making it ideal for someone who thrives in an independent environment. This position requires onsite work from our campus in the center of Helsinki.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking complete ownership of the finance function, and independently managing day-to-day operations

  • Leading budgeting, forecasting and reporting

  • Managing invoicing as well as accounts payable and receivable

  • Working with our external accounting partner and ensuring legal compliance in all financial activities including preparing financial statements

  • Providing business support for our other functions

  • Supporting the CEO and COO in HR/Legal related matters

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting or a related field

  • At least 5 years of experience in a finance position with responsibility for the entire function, with a proven track record of success

  • Growth mindset with a hands-on, doer approach to tasks and challenges.

  • Strong self-starter, able to work independently and take ownership of decision-making for finance

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to master and manage multiple projects at the same time.

  • Positive attitude, with a commitment to creating and maintaining a collaborative and supportive team environment.

  • Fluent in Finnish and English, both written and spoken. Additional language proficiency is a plus.
