Commercially-minded Data Scientist

Hunome (Hunomics Ltd) helps humanity make sense of itself on a collective sensemaking platform. We are a remote and diverse team of 10+. We launched the web-based platform in Q2 2021. All in the team are working shareholders.

Our collective sensemaking platform helps humans build multidimensional shared understanding and we analyze and find patterns in that for our members and clients.

You would represent what many would call a great commercially minded data scientist, you know what it means to be senior in that role. You are someone who is definitely wanting to make their mark in a startup, you care about what we are aiming to change in the world and you have the mindset to be consistent and persevere. Otherwise it would be just another job.

An immediately salaried 'job' is not what you are after but showcasing your experience in data science within a startup with unique data for the potential for massive return with success (shares first, later salary added once funded, we progress). We make it possible for you to take the first startup step in a part-time role as a working shareholder.

We’re now looking for a hands-on Data Scientist who can use their skills to evolve our data strategy, innovate new product dimensions, and propose new means to discover insights from our data. We will be guided by your analysis of company data to make smarter decisions to deliver better products.  

Your interest in the data engineering side would see you roadmap our AI technology evolution and the preparation of the environment.

You will work closely with the product team and the technology team to excel in this role. 

 

Responsibilities (How you are expected to apply your data science skills):

  • Define features on a roadmap

  • Evolve our data strategy and roadmap 

  • Enhance our data collection and generation 

  • Deliver proof of concepts and then productized AI solutions along the roadmap

  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to our vertical AI/domain specific (collective sensemaking) space

  • Define and deliver our knowledge graph and process textual data 

  • Perform time series analysis and forecasting 

  • Perform statistical analysis and reports

  • Create the technology environment to deliver the solutions 

  • Participate in product development

 

You will be joining us at a pivotal point in our development and you can expect your role to grow to:

  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies

  • Create automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance

  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, identify use cases emerging and other business outcomes

  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy

  • Extend the company’s data with third party sources of information when relevant

 

Requirements (What we expect you to have):

We’re looking for someone with 5-7 years of experience, with business applications as part of it, optimally with a Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics or computer science as a quantitative field. You would have an affinity with qualitative data and be familiar with the following:

  • Strong problem solving skills, with innovative and analytical mind

  • Experience with Python, and related libraries (pandas, numpy, scipy, pyplot, seaborn)

  • Experience with Python NLP libraries (NLTK, Spacy, Gensim, Word2Vec, Glove)

  • Knowledge of deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras)

  • Experience with databases (SQL, PostgreSQL)

  • Experience with data architectures

  • Understanding of knowledge graphs and their implementation

  • Knowledge of statistics and probability modeling

  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks

  • Experience in data visualization

  • Familiarity with MLOps methodology and tools

 

Nice to have also:

  • Azure knowledge

  • Distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, MySQL, Neo4j etc.

  • Ability to train those not savvy in data analysis on its potential

  • An ambition to make a difference in the world to how data analysis might help humanity make sense of itself

 

Working Conditions

  • 20hrs per week on average, arranged flexibly

  • Remote team - Company is based in Helsinki, Finland. Diverse team in many countries

  • English is our working language

At the moment, we cannot be a sponsor of a work permit. If you wish to work in Finland, applicants should hold a work permit valid until (at least) early 2025.

 

Please Note

The team benefits by being involved on a direct equity, ownership in the company, basis for a minimum of 20hrs per week commitment for sufficient focus to become successful in the role. Once Hunome is ready to pay the salary, you would become 100% focused on the business. This means that you can build your startup career while earning a living in a day job or other part-time work. (NB: a contract with a big IT firm may exclude you from this offer)
