BACKGROUND
As the Communications Manager in Finland, you will play an important role in shaping and conveying the brand's narrative, ensuring that it builds trust and strengthens its reputation. This position will lead strategic communication, public relations, public affairs, and communication regarding sustainability efforts.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
As Communications Manager, you will report directly to the Nordic Communications Director, supporting the Finnish market and the Finnish Managing Director. You will be part of the Nordic organization, work cross-organizationally and navigate in a complex stakeholder environment, both internally and externally. You will interact and build relationships with your Nordic peers and local franchisees, as well as external agencies that assist with both public affairs and public relations tasks.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC WORK TASKS
As Communications Manager, you will be responsible for a wide array of tasks, revolving around the topics of public relations, public affairs, internal communications, sustainability, and strategic communications. Your tasks will include, but not be limited to the following, as various ad hoc tasks may occur.
Strategic Communication
- Contribute to the overall group communications strategy and planning by identifying and monitoring key strategic communications needs for the Finnish market.
- Managing the PR and PA agency
- Drive proactive communications engagement that increases Trust with Finnish stakeholders.
- Support product marketing and branding initiatives, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.
Public Relations & Media Management
- Act as the primary spokesperson and media contact, managing press releases and media relations, including the press hotline.
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets to secure positive coverage.
- Develop McDonald's position and messaging on various topics and issues.
- Together with the agency, conduct media training for spokespersons and key personnel.
- Manage crisis communication and issue management to protect and enhance the brand's reputation.
Sustainability & Public Affairs
- Support and communicate the company’s sustainability strategy and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
- Advocate for the interests of Finnish stakeholders and collaborate with various organizations to promote sustainability.
- Monitor local legislation, providing insights and strategic advice to senior management.
- Manage sponsorships, charity initiatives, and partnerships to enhance brand presence and community impact.
Stakeholder & Internal Communication
- Be responsible for internal engagement within the Finnish headquarters and key communications into the restaurants.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including franchisees, trade organizations, and the leadership team.
- Provide strategic communication advice to the leadership team and participate in key internal meetings.
- Support customer service by responding to guest inquiries and ensuring consistent communication across channels.
Content Creation & Approval
- Oversee the development and approval of content for the website, app, and monthly newsletters.
- Write and edit LinkedIn posts, Q&As for restaurants, and franchisee portraits for anniversaries.
- Provide input for various communication materials.
We hope that you have more than 5 years of experience within the communications field and a minimum bachelor's degree.

Workplace: Office in Helsinki Meilahti, hybrid work opportunity.
