Doctoral researcher affiliated with the Centre for Consumer Society Research

The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Centre for Consumer Society Research of the University of Helsinki invite applications for the position of

 

DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

 

for a fixed 4-year term starting on 1 .8.2025 (or as agreed). Successful candidates are expected to work full-time.



The doctoral researcher will carry out an individual research project and will be affiliated with the Centre for Consumer Society Research. The duties also include teaching and other tasks. Teaching tasks can account for up to 5 % of the annual working time.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SELECTION CRITERIA

 

Applicants should hold a Master's degree in a field that is relevant to the research topic (e.g. sociology, economics, public administration, political science, history). The successful research plan should fit the research profile of the Centre for Consumer Society Research and is dependent on available PhD supervision. Fluency in English language is required. Other requirements include proven ability and motivation, demonstrated through previous degree studies or otherwise, to pursue postgraduate studies.



The appointee should apply for and obtain the right for a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki within the probationary period of six months of their appointment.



The chosen applicant is expected to reside in Finland while employed by the University of Helsinki. The Faculty of Social Sciences provides assistance in relocation.

The monthly gross salary will range from approximately from €2.500 to €3.200 depending on their qualifications and experience. The Centre for Consumer Society Research is a multidisciplinary centre operating at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Helsinki. Its task is to study phenomena related to consumption and consumer behaviour and their impact on consumers' lives, participate in the provision of basic education in the field and in the national researcher training, and develop the societal impact of the research field.
