Doctoral Researcher, Center for Medicine and Medical Research

We have an open Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Center for Medicine and Medical Research, at the Kuopio University Hospital, the wellbeing services county of North Savo. The position will be filled from October 1st 2024 (or starting date as agreed).

We are seeking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work on research projects by Professor Johanna Kuusisto. The projects include investigations on genetics, biomarkers, clinical phenotype, imaging and cardiac end points in cardiomyopathies and atherosclerotic vascular disease.

The projects will be conducted at Kuopio University Hospital in collaboration with the University Eastern Finland. Ongoing CardioPath, BioMETSIM and FinFabry Studies, directed by Professor Johanna Kuusisto, are in different phases of data collection, data entering, analysis and publication. CardioPath, BioMETSIM and FinFabry Studies involve multidisciplinary teams of cardiologists, internists and researchers with background in genetics, biomarkers, clinical phenotype, imaging and cardiac end points in cardiomyopathies and atherosclerotic vascular disease. The study groups are internationally established experts in their field and consists of more than 20 researchers.

This project will be achieved via active national and international collaboration with all University and many Central Hospitals in Finland and University of Amsterdam. The primary tasks of the Postdoctoral Researcher will include, but not limited to, building data files for scientific projects, statistical analysis of data, preparing tables and figures for publications, making posters for conferences and preparing preliminary data for articles and submission processes. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also assist in the supervision of PhD researchers and will also be actively involved in preparation of personal grant applications and other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Candidates who are currently completing or have recently completed a PhD degree are invited to apply, provided that they will have completed their degree before the starting date.

Our requirements and expectations
- The person to be appointed in the position shall hold a PhD degree in biomedical fields. The doctoral degree may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position (a net period of time, which does not include parental leaves, military service etc.).
- Potential candidates should have a good command of the English language.

Experience and Skills
Minimum:
- Background in high-level biomedical research
- Previous experience working on data management
- Fluency in spoken and (especially) written English for technical communication
Desirable:
- Good publication track record
- Strong experience in statistical analysis
- Comfortable working in a highly multi-disciplinary group
- Good social skills
- Intellectual flexibility for working in a spectrum of cardiac diseases
