Kalmar, a global leader in providing cargo handling solutions, is searching for a Maintenance Design Engineer to shape the future of maintenance & services excellence for our cutting-edge products: reachstackers, heavy forklifts, horizontal and terminal tractors.


The position is based in Tampere, Finland

The Maintenance Design Engineer will lead efforts to continuously enhance maintenance programs for all Kalmar products and drive innovation by leveraging insights from field data, component suppliers, and engineers. Further efforts include: creating safer, more efficient maintenance practices that align with Kalmar's strategy and developing and implementing predictive maintenance models across divisions while managing design-to-service initiatives as a project manager in New Product Development (NPD) projects.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Develop & Enhance Maintenance Programs: Ensure programs align with machine usage, field insights, and company targets
  • Improve Documentation: Create and maintain manuals (maintenance, workshop, etc.) that enable safe and efficient practices
  • Lead Cross-Functional Strategies: Drive the design-to-service strategy and ensure all stakeholders are aligned
  • Champion Safety & Efficiency: Systematically improve maintenance safety, both in machine design and documentation
  • Promote Continuous Improvement: Standardize maintenance practices with a focus on quality, efficiency, and data-driven insights.

What you'll need to succeed

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Hands-on expertise in maintenance work and safety improvement for heavy machinery
  • Proven experience in service operations business and contract development
  • Strong knowledge of automotive technical systems
  • Project management experience with a continuous improvement mindset.

Skills & Competencies

  • Service-minded, structured, and action-oriented approach
  • Ability to extract insights from large datasets for decision-making
  • Skilled communicator with excellent presentation and documentation abilities
  • Cross-functional team leadership and stakeholder management
  • Commercial understanding of service businesses
  • Proficient in QEHS principles and English (written and verbal).
