What you’ll do:
Conventionally Medium Voltage is converted to Low Voltage via passive transformer, consisting of large 50/60 Hz windings and core material. Solid state transformers (SST) use high-frequency transformers and power electronics, providing a controllable MV/LV converter with higher power density compared to the conventional passive transformer.
Eaton is offering one paid MSc thesis position to further study this subject:
• Within industrial and datacenter segments, define key applications (use cases) for SST based on e.g. literature research and interviews
• Develop a techno-economic cost / benefit model that considers both CAPEX and OPEX of SST
• Investigate and quantify the benefits of SST using developed model for the defined applications
What we are offering:
• 6-8 month paid thesis worker positions. Positions are full-time with possibility to flex around university obligations.
• Possibility to work remotely for at least some of the time. Our office, R&D laboratory and manufacturing site is based in Vantaa
• Possibility to work on concrete solutions to real-world problems as part of an international product marketing organization.
Carrying out your thesis work at Eaton will give you the opportunity to experience research and business application modeling as part of a large international organization.
Working in Eaton’s Product Marketing team, you will collaborate with and learn from Finland’s leading UPS experts.
The thesis work will start as soon as a suitable thesis worker is found.
Skills:
- Students with focus on industrial management, power electronics, electrical engineering, economics
- Interest in techno-economic application modeling
- Experience with Matlab / Python / Excel and similar tools is valued
