We are looking for a Software Developer in Tampere to work on embedded systems and development projects related to mobile work machinery, networked industrial equipment and sensors.
YOUR ROLE
In this role, you can expect technically fascinating projects, where you'll get to work in areas such as industrial automation, heavy machinery, and autonomous vehicles. You will have the opportunity to work with networked embedded systems, mobile work machines, intelligent sensors and protocols, and develop robust, scalable systems that are part of cutting edge products.
Depending on your background, skills and wishes, your focus can be more in the direction of the user interface, in the middleware layers of the systems or down at the RTOS or bare-metal end.
- On the GUI and middleware development, our typical projects are part of or related to different kinds of mobile work machines or industrial systems. Most often we're talking about more or less distributed, Linux-based systems with C++, Qt and QML being the typical main technologies.
- Closer to the hardware, we are talking about individual sensors and controllers, usually as part of systems like above. Our tools of choice are usually C or C++ on top of embedded Linux, some RTOS or bare metal.
Your larger team at Insta consists of over 70 professionals, with various backgrounds in design, data and software development ranging from embedded systems to cloud infrastructures, analytics, and quality assurance. You will be working in an agile project team focused on delivering value to our customers in long-term projects (typically between 1-3 years).

Your work is flexible, but you will be occasionally visiting the Finlayson office and customer premises in the Pirkanmaa area. Thus we prefer, that you are located at or close to Tampere.
We expect you to have:
- At least around 5 years of work experience in embedded systems development
- If focusing more on the GUI/middleware side: good understanding of C++, Qt and QML
- If you work closer to the metal: a good grip on both C and C++, and real-time systems in general
- Solid skills with Linux in both cases (familiarity with Yocto is a plus)
- Familiarity with various communication protocols, field buses, and so forth - though the exact technologies for this bullet are not that important, main thing is that you have a genuine passion for embedded technologies, and curiosity to work also directly with hardware
- Familiarity with other programming languages like python or C# is seen as a plus
- You enjoy writing elegant, efficient and robust code
- You have a proactive mindset with the ability to work independently, while also being a strong team player
- You enjoy working in a team that cultivates continuous learning and has solid agile practices
- You take responsibility in your work; you can self-manage, and you enjoy working closely with your teammates
- You are comfortable speaking English with international customers and colleagues - Finnish language skills are seen as a plus

Salary range for this position is approximately 5000-6000 euros.
