Family Description

Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterised by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Subfamily Description

Eletromechanical Design (EDE) consists of mechanics, thermal, interconnections, Power Supply Unit (PSU), Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout design, and HW usability. EDE requires innovative design knowhow to design electromechanics parts to Base Transceiver Station (BTS) module, units, etc. Design targets are high quality, easy installability, and reliability products with low costs.

 

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In (Senior) HW Engineer, Emech position you will work in electromechanics area in close co-operation with product programs and product management as well as with suppliers. Your tasks include e.g. product design work along with product specifications and creating documentation for the relevant part of the product.

  • Have overall responsibility of specified entities (e.g. features)
  • Plan, design, and execute items in own area.
  • Participate in effort estimation in own area.
  • Perform problem isolation and resolution.
  • Apply knowledge and experience to determine root cause

 

In addition to this based on the level of expertized responsibilities may include also:

  • Planning and leading small size projects and participating in feasibility studies.
  • Providing and reviewing technical documentation related to the new implementation and maintenance.
  • Leading and/or providing guidance and support for fault analysis and resolution of issues within own responsible area.
  • Leading troubleshooting (including logging) improvements.
  • Contributing to guidelines and process improvements
  • Sharing knowledge in his/her area of expertise
  • Providing directions and support for other team members
  • Leading or contributing to the engineering teams from technical perspective and overseeing training of new employees.
  • Leading internal improvement projects, initiatives, and task forces

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • BSc or MSc degree in mechanical engineering or similar
  • Minimum 5-8 years' post-graduation experience in RF domain 
  • Proven track record of die cast, injection molding and sheet metal part design. Design for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Proven track record of mechanics design
  • Knowledge of signal integrity and SMT process understanding, and Nokia processes is seen as a benefit.
  • Experience of R&D tools used in Electromechanics area: Creo, Windchill, Enovia
  • Ability to read FEM and thermal analysis reports
  • Knowledge or experience on FEM analysis tools is a plus 
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent team working and co-operation skills
  • Solid experience in problem solving 
  • Solid experience of mechanical verification
  • Knowledge of telecommunications 
  • Good communication in English (written and spoken)
