About the role

As a summer trainee, you will have an exciting opportunity to participate in automation projects related to Loviisa nuclear power plant as well as domestic and international customers of Nuclear Services. We have just renewed the operating licenses of Loviisa NPP units until 2050 and are currently planning the next automation modernization projects for the units. In addition, we are currently investigating opportunities regarding new nuclear power and have several projects on-going for our external customers.

 

Your position is located in the I&C Project Design team of Engineering & Projects (E&P) business area, located in Espoo, Finland. The team consists of I&C experts, who are utilized in projects supporting safe and efficient operations of the Loviisa nuclear power plant, our Co-owned nuclear units, external nuclear customers, the development of new nuclear and nuclear R&D activities in Fortum.

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Support I&C architecture, I&C system and component level design
  • Support the projects by performing tasks related to areas of automation engineering, quality, requirement management, configuration and change management, licensing, qualification, V&V, and cyber security
  • Participate in engineering process development and build a comprehensive understanding of automation technology's essential role in terms of nuclear safety.

 

This position suits best candidates who want to gain experience from nuclear automation modernization projects and are willing to develop towards an automation project professional.

 

A few domestic travel days might be included, mostly to the Loviisa site.

 

About you

We are looking for a student with a positive and proactive attitude, development-oriented mindset, and a genuine interest in learning and growing as a nuclear automation and project professional.

 

To succeed in this role, you are expected to have basic knowledge of process automation systems and components, project work, use basic office tools effectively, and a desire to work in the nuclear energy sector. Collaboration with team members and other colleagues is also vital.

 

We appreciate taking initiative, responsibility, and giving us new ideas.

 

Due to our international work environment, you will need excellent English skills, both written and spoken. As we also work under Finnish regulation and internal instructions, Finnish skills are considered an asset.

 

We hope that you apply for the position, if you have: 

  • Upper-level studies (academic or polytechnic) in automation engineering, with at least first-year studies successfully completed
  • Fluent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of Office tools, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Programming, AI, and modern project and engineering tool skills are considered an asset
