Technical Developer, Solar

Are you passionate about renewable energy and eager to make a significant impact in the energy sector? Fortum is looking for a dedicated Technical Developer to support our project developers in solar and battery storage projects from site origination to construction. Join us and be a part of the transition to a sustainable energy future!

About the role

Your main responsibility revolves around supporting our project developers in all technical matters by closely collaborating with them in solar and battery storage projects in all stages of the development process from site origination to the start of the construction. While performing technical works yourself, you are also expected to coordinate all the remaining technical work of the project as needed. For this, you in turn will get support from different top experts in their own fields located in our own team, Technical Services, as well as in the Engineering-team. While your primary focus will be on projects in Sweden, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to initiatives in Finland and Norway.

The exact responsibilities and the seniority of the role depend on your experience, but the core responsibilities are as follows:

  • Support developers in the origination process of the solar projects in Sweden (and Finland & Norway if needed) by defining the technical parameters used in GIS-tools
  • Perform site feasibility analyses (incl. site visits, and site-specific CAPEX estimation)
  • Optimizing project design together with other experts in the organization
  • Lead and perform Technical Due Diligence of third-party portfolios in potential acquisition cases and engage technical consultants when required
  • Continuously learn and develop your own responsibility area to make our ways of working more efficient, and our deliverables more precise and of higher quality

Other potential tasks depending on your background:

  • Modelling and performing energy yield assessments for new sites (PVsyst)
  • Creating site layouts with different tools (e.g. CAD-layouts) for new projects
  • Create layouts and drawings (SLDs, MMS-designs, foundations) for permitting applications
  • Support in Hybrid projects (any potential combination of Solar, Wind, BESS, H2)

Who are you?

You are an open-minded team player with good communication and networking abilities. You quickly adapt to dynamic work environments and are a fast learner. You bring new ideas to the table and want to improve the current ways of working. You have an eye for detail but keep the big picture sharply in focus.

In the position as Technical Developer within Solar we see that you bring:

  • Passion about renewable energy and the energy transition
  • Relevant higher-level education in a suitable field, e.g. Engineering
  • Good understanding of the project development process, solar technical design, as well as a general business understanding
  • Several years of working experience with utility-scale solar in project development, engineering, M&A, or other relevant area.
  • Familiarity with relevant design and simulation software (e.g. PVsyst, CAD) and GIS
  • Ability to handle multiple stakeholders and projects simultaneously
  • Fluency in the working language Swedish (with developers and local authorities) and English (general working language at Fortum) are critical, while other Nordic languages are seen as highly beneficial
  • You are able and willing to travel internationally (mainly FIN/SWE but also EU) a handful of times per year
