We are now looking to hire a
Cost Control Expert
to join our newly established Project Execution organization. This is a great opportunity to be involved in meaningful hydrogen projects right from the feasibility phase and also leave your handprint in developing the cost control discipline at Gasgrid.
In your role you ensure that all project objectives are realized in a cost-effective way. You oversee, manage and develop the financial aspects of the hydrogen infrastructure projects ensuring cost-efficiency and alignment with the overall budget. The role involves close collaboration with project teams and contractors to monitor, control and report on all cost-related activities, enabling informed decision-making and financial accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
The Cost Control Expert will also have the opportunity to develop and act as a Project Controls Manager for large infrastructure projects managing and integrating cost and schedule performance while challenging contractors to meet project schedule and budget expectations.
In this position you report to the Manager, Project Controls and your office is located in Espoo.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain cost control systems and procedures for tracking project budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.
- Regularly analyze actual costs against project forecasts, identifying trends and variances.
- Ensure that project financial performance is regularly reported to the senior management team, with a focus on risks, opportunities, and overall project health.
- Assist in developing detailed project budgets and ensure that all cost management activities are aligned and complied with contractual agreements.
- Collaborate with the estimating team in all project phases to ensure accurate project financial planning.
- Analyze contractor cost estimates, procurement strategies, and payment schedules to ensure alignment with project objectives and cost efficiency.
- Facilitate cost review meetings with contractors and stakeholders, driving accountability and ensuring the project objectives are met.
- Review change orders, cost variations, and claims to assess financial impact.
- Lead cost risk assessments, ensuring proactive management of risks and cost-related contingencies
- Review contractor claims for additional costs, ensuring that claims are validated, documented, and aligned with the terms of the contract.
We would appreciate if you had:
- 5+ years of experience in cost control and project management in large-scale infrastructure projects, oil & gas project experience is seen as a benefit
- Expertise in cost control principles, industry standards (AACE), cost reporting, EVM methodology, forecasting, and project financial management.
- Strong skills in negotiating with contractors and stakeholders to optimize project outcomes.
- Proven experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams, managing expectations, and fostering collaboration.
- Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations for cost optimization.
- Strong understanding of project risk management and how it influences financial performance.
- Relevant educational background, e.g. a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Finance or a related field
- Fluency in English and at least basic understanding of Finnish
- Experience in Primavera P6, MS Project, PowerBI and other Project Control Systems is considered an advantage.

The position involves a task referred to in the Security Clearance Act (726/2014), which is why an approved certificate/statement on security clearance is one of the conditions for filling the position. The selected person will undergo a health check, which includes a drug test.
