We are now looking for a new colleague to join us as an EU Adviser in Brussels! The role is open as one of our team members is moving on to a new role within the company. Our Corporate Public Affairs team consists of 10 committed professionals based in Espoo and Brussels.

This is a permanent position based in Fortum's EU office in Brussels, Belgium. 

About the role 

As an EU Adviser you will contribute to the activities of our Brussels team in cooperation with business representatives and other colleagues and conduct advocacy towards EU stakeholders. The work involves liaising with European trade organisations and peer companies as well as contributing to coalition building. Specific EU policy responsibilities related to this role are nuclear energy and climate policies. In addition, you will be responsible for developing and driving communication activities in close coordination with our communication professionals.

Main tasks: 

• Monitor and assess key EU legislative files and policy initiatives of strategic relevance to Fortum 

• Prepare background briefings and position papers 

• Build intelligence and engage in active networking  

• Define and coordinate Fortum's advocacy in Brussels towards EU institutions (Commission, Council, European parliament) and other external stakeholders with specific focus on nuclear energy and climate policies 

• Contribute to improving Fortum's visibility in Brussels including communication and social media activities
  
   

Fortum's Brussels office is a shared office with Nordic energy associations and few Nordic energy companies which enables close cooperation between the regional players.

Depending on the candidate's experience, the position can be either an EU Adviser or a Junior EU Adviser.

About you 

We expect you to have a higher university degree from a relevant field (economic, politics, legal, technical). For the EU Adviser position, we expect 3-5 years of relevant work experience, including thorough knowledge of EU institutions and related decision-making and other processes as well as hands-on experience of dealing with the EU institutions in Brussels. You should have already existing contacts and networks with relevant stakeholder groups in the energy field.

As we are working as a closely connected cross-country team, it is important that you are a true team player who believes in driving the success of the team over individual ambitions.

In this role you should have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong analytical and coordination skills. 

The position is based in Brussels but occasional visits to Fortum HQ in Espoo and relevant operating countries as well as other traveling will be part of the job.
