Foreman Welder
Are you looking to develop your career in structural steel welding with one of Europe's leading steelwork specialists?
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Foreman Welder to oversee welding operations on our construction sites. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with company procedures, statutory legislation, and best practices while leading a team of welders. You will be responsible for the coordination of remedial works and adherence to permits, Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS).
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure RAMS, task briefings, lift plans, and permit systems are in place and followed by the team.
- Supervise and train labour under your control for specific tasks.
- Deliver project programs and sequences as planned.
- Ensure plant equipment and PPE are used in compliance with company policies.
- Conduct daily briefings on hazards and engage the team for feedback and safety improvement.
- Monitor quality control, including bolt connections, check sheets, and Seversafe procedures.
- Maintain high standards of work quality from all team members.
- Keep accurate records of piece counts, crane use, downtime, delays, and variations.
- Collaborate with Site Management to identify project variations and maintain compliance.
- Report all accidents, incidents, and near-misses immediately to Site Management.
Educational & Certification Requirements:
- CSCS Card or Työturvallisuuskortti for site access
- NVQ Level 3 or similar qualifications (minimum) in Fabrication and Welding
- Coded welding certificate (BUTT and Fillet Welding)
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
- First Aid Certification
- CPCS Slinger & Internal Slinger Competency (SUK)
- CPCS MEWP & Scissor Lift or IPAF 3a/3b+ Certification
- Basket to Basket, PASMA, Fire Marshal, Manual Handling, Harness Safety
- Seversafe Fans, Edge Protection, Offload training
- Torque Wrench, Bolting Level 1, Hand Tools/Remedial Training
- Column Rearing Pad (SUK - Erection Foreman only) RBV
- Strong English reading and writing skills
Experience & Skills Required:
- 6-10 years of experience in construction as a welder's mate
- Proven experience in supervising welding teams
- Ability to travel as required for the role
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Flexibility, self-motivation, and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work closely with site management and team members
Safety Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of yourself and your team
- Establish and maintain exclusion zones in work areas-
- Ensure lifting equipment and plant are safe for use
- Report all safety incidents to the Site Management Team
Application of Knowledge:
- Adhere to company policies and RAMS for specific tasks
- Provide regular briefings on policy updates and procedural changes
- Follow detailed plans, including steel structures, pre-cast elements, and beam/column work
Problem-Solving & Innovation:
- Identify and flag issues with RAMS to Site Management
- Propose practical solutions for on-site challenges
Interaction & Impact:
- Communicate daily with team members and Site Management
- Maintain records and safety documentation
- Lead and supervise teams effectively while ensuring project success
Accountability:
- Supervise a team of welders with potential subcontractor oversight
- No direct budgetary responsibilities
