Mechanical Design Engineer Trainee: Steel Structures

Join the future of sustainable shipping with Norsepower!

Are you ready to embark on a thrilling journey in the heart of maritime innovation? Norsepower, a pioneer in sustainable shipping solutions, is bringing sails back to shipping - and saving the planet at the same time. We are now seeking a dynamic Mechanical Design Engineer Trainee to join our team.

Norsepower Rotor SailTM harnesses the wind to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of ships. It is the first commercially available mechanical sail for large vessels. It has a proven track record of successful operation since 2014. Norsepower's project services cover all phases from sales to project delivery and operational support.

You will join a dynamic 13-person Mechanical team with a primary focus on designing and developing Norsepower Rotor SailsTM. As a summer trainee, you will have the opportunity to work on mechanical design and 3D modelling using Creo and Windchill. In addition, your responsibilities will include updating and managing documents such as installation manuals, maintenance guides, and specifications. In this position, you will gain valuable experience in marine technology design and learn how a product development environment operates for a relatively new product. You'll be supported by a agile team that works collaboratively and maintains a great team spirit.

To succeed in this position, we expect you to have completed at least a few years of relevant studies and have a solid theoretical understanding of Mechanical engineering. Any prior experience with design work and familiarity with Creo is appreciated, but above all, a curious mindset and a strong willingness to learn new things are essential. A careful and detail-oriented approach to work is also important. The contract will be fixed-term, and availability to work from May until the end of August is highly preferred. Our office is located in Ruoholahti, and we operate in a flexible hybrid model. To foster teamwork, we encourage you to be present at least three days per week.

We offer you

  • A possibility to contribute to a more sustainable future
  • A chance to get exposure to the exciting world of international cleantech
  • Continuous learning opportunities, allowing you to grow and develop your skills in a supportive environment
  • A motivated and collaborative team to join, comprising highly driven professionals from various disciplines, all dedicated to shaping a cleaner future for the shipping industry
  • Flexibility in working conditions, allowing you to enjoy a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle
  • A fixed monthly salary, determined by your completed study credits and educational background.

Requirements

  • At least two years of relevant studies in Mechanical Engineering
  • Familiarity with some design tool (preferably Creo) and good Ms Office skills
  • Have full working proficiency in English

Bonus skills

  • Work experience related to design
  • Understanding of machined parts and welded structures.
