CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent Finnish organisation that works to prevent and resolve conflicts through mediation and dialogue. Founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, we have since grown to be a leader in the field of international peacemaking.
CMI is now looking for a Project Officer or Programme Officer for its Middle East and North Africa team to support the implementation of CMI’s EU-funded project in Libya.
Your key responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for budget management and ensuring donor compliance in line with EU grant conditions
- Liaising with Libya Country Coordinator and advisors to ensure planned activities are in line with project document
- Drafting quarterly and annual reports as per internal CMI and donor requirements
- Coordinating regular team meetings
- Supporting dialogue workshops design and logistical arrangements in collaboration with the project team
- Undertaking missions when security environment is conducive
- Keeping abreast of political developments in Libya
A successful candidate is expected to have:
- A minimum of three (3) years of practical experience in project management, preferably in an international setting in the field of international dialogue, mediation and/or peacebuilding in Middle East and North Africa. Knowledge of transitional processes in MENA region is a requirement, knowledge of the Libyan context, political parties, as well as youth is an asset.
- Good understanding and practical experience of planning, monitoring and reporting, as well as budgeting and financial monitoring. Experience in implementing EU projects and familiarity with EU funding is an asset.
- Knowledge of foresight and scenario building methods is an asset.
- Excellent communication and teamworking skills.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills, creativity, conflict sensitivity and good political judgement.
- Flexible attitude and ability to work under pressure in challenging circumstances and to tight timelines.
- Excellent written and spoken skills in English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- A university degree from a relevant field.

The Project/Programme Officer will report to Head, MENA. The position is located in Helsinki or in Brussels and requires a valid EU work permit.
